Vice Chancellor's Welcome Address

logo It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the Institute of Continuing Education (ICE) University of Lagos (The University of First Choice and the Nation’s Pride). The Institute of Continuing Education (ICE) was established by Senate of the University in 2009 to coordinate all the undergraduate degree programmes, run on part-time basis in the various Faculties of the University. The Institute currently coordinates the Sandwich degree programmes of the Faculty of Education, Faculty of Arts degree programmes, Estate Management degree programme of the Faculty of Environmental Sciences and Mass Communication degree programme of Faculty of Social Sciences (evening). These programmes lead to the award of B. A. (Hons.) Edu., B.Sc. (Hons.) Edu., B. A. (Hons.) and B.Sc. (Hons.) degrees. Lagos, being a mega-city, has a lot of people whose circumstances require that they combine work with studies. It is in recognition of this that the University of Lagos, a leading Institution that is situated in urban city, places high premium on evening undergraduate programmes geared towards meeting the yearning for further education by workers. These programmes are organized and delivered in such a way that they meet the high level standard and quality of their full-time counterparts that the University is known for. Many steps are being taken by the University to make studies enjoyable. These include the on-line registration, well equipped and inter-net facilitated library, ICE webpage and other programmes that would enhance the visibility of the students that could give them a sense of belonging. ICE Handbook is another additional benefit that both Lecturers and Students would find as a very useful guide and reference material in their academic activities and it will serve as a roadmap to guide not just the Prospective Students but also Lecturers and Coordinators of the various programmes, and the Institute, in terms of course contents/descriptions/outlines.

Director's Desk

It is a universal fact that in the overall ambit of life, a person armed with a good education is bestowed with an advantage in the quest for success. Therefore, The Institute strives to provide quality education in order to enable the workforce in Lagos and its environs benefit from continuous academic and professional training and development. It also continues to add value to existing part-time degree programmes by strengthening them in terms of quality and quantity of teachers, infrastructure and facilities. Currently, the Institute runs evening programme courses in all six departments of the Faculty of Arts, Mass Communication (Faculty of Social Sciences) and Estate Management (Faculty of Environmental Science) and Part-time in Sandwich programmes (Faculty of Education). Plans are in the pipeline to have additional programmes in other Faculties. These courses are taught by teams of highly qualified and committed teachers. Over the years, processing of ICE students’ results has been a major challenge. However, this situation will soon be a thing of the past. Thanks to the Vice Chancellor for his intervention, many of these issues are being resolved and results of evening and part-time students are now going to be handled on the same platform as full-time students. On this note, I welcome you to an intellectual adventure and wish you a smooth and productive academic session.
